Preparation is no longer an option
Share
In recent months (and again this month in Belgium, with General Vansina's statements), several of our political leaders have spoken out in favor of increased citizen preparation and increased resilience of both our systems and populations in the face of risks of war and major crises. Just a few years ago, preparing for the unexpected was considered a survivalist fad. Today, with rising geopolitical tensions, the energy crisis, natural disasters, and economic instability, the question is no longer whether an emergency scenario will occur, but when and in what form .
No one can predict the future , but one thing is certain: those who take the initiative will be ahead of the curve . Being prepared doesn't mean building a bunker and waiting for the world to end. It's just common sense.
If tomorrow, a power outage paralyzes your region for several days, stores are stormed, or access to water becomes complicated... Do you have what it takes to hold out, protect your loved ones, and maintain the advantage?
If the answer is no, here are the essential basics to master right now.
🛠️ Prepare smart: The basics to master
Being prepared is not about randomly accumulating equipment. It is about anticipating vital needs to ensure your autonomy and safety without depending on others .
💧Your number 1 priority: WATER
Water is the substance your body depends on the most, along with oxygen and carbohydrates...! Without drinking water, regardless of the situation or environment you find yourself in, you won't last more than 3 days (and the third won't be great).
- Store a minimum of 3 liters of water per person per day for at least 72 hours;
- Have a portable filter (you will find different models on our webshop) to transform a dubious source into drinkable water;
- Collect and purify rainwater using containers or suitable systems if the situation continues.
🥫 Your number 2 priority: FOOD
Previously, we talked about carbohydrates. And unlike an unexpected situation, here, you have the opportunity to prepare. Anticipation is the key to self-sufficiency! So prepare some supplies so you don't find yourself in dire need.
- Stock up on non-perishable foods (canned goods, pasta, rice, energy bars);
- Learn how to cook without electricity using a gas, alcohol, wood or solar stove;
- If your accommodation allows it, be self-sufficient in the long term : vegetable garden, sprouted seeds, fishing, hunting if the context lends itself to it.
🔪 Your number 3 priority: SAFETY & ESSENTIAL EQUIPMENT
- A good tactical knife : essential for DIY, hunting or self-defense;
- A tactical axe : for the same reasons as the knife, but more useful for collecting wood, useful for heating or cooking;
- A reliable fire starter : ferrocerium, storm lighter, waterproof matches are your friends;
- A multi-tool : for repairs and unforeseen events (some, very practical, are combined with the tactical knife)
- A solar power bank : to provide a power source in the event of a power outage ;
- A long-range walkie-talkie : essential if the networks go down;
- A first aid kit: In case of an injury, fracture, or burn, you don't want your wounds to get infected while medical personnel are out of reach.

📢 The Key: Anticipate rather than suffer
There you have it! You now have a first layer of equipment that will allow you to get through a short-term emergency. But is it enough? The answer is no. You've anticipated the first part, that is, the tools. Now you need to anticipate your plan.
Ask yourself the question:
- If tomorrow, there is no electricity for a week: what will you do?
- If the supermarkets are empty for 15 days: how do you cope?
- If you have to leave the city urgently: where do you go, with what and how?
Don't stop at these simple questions: develop your exit plan in a structured way, using maps of your region or territory. Assume that you won't be the only one wanting to leave : the main roads will be completely congested and will undoubtedly slow you down ; you will need to determine alternative routes, particularly via small paths, streets, and countryside. Forget the highway.
Also, remember in your preparation that these aren't movie scripts: this is a reality that has happened elsewhere and can happen anywhere. Prepare in advance. If the time comes, you'll thank yourself for doing so.
